Endangered Gorillas

Africa is the great land for a lot of wild animals. However, some of them are in endangered situations now, especially Gorillas which are living in the tropical rain forest, western and central of Africa. They are the largest living primates and the closest relative great apes to humans after chimpanzees. Gorillas’ DNA is almost around 98% like humans. They have been appeared familiarly in the human life through many comic books and movies like series “King Kong” or “Tarzan”. Even though they are always thought as a violent beast, they are actually very friendly and shy except the time when they protect their family from the dangerous things. Unfortunately, the populations of Gorillas have been decreasing dramatically because of habitat loss, illegal hunting and human ailments. Thus, Gorillas are classified as an endangered species by the Endangered Species Act. Scientists are still unsure how many Gorillas remain today.
Gorillas have been losing their natural habitat due to human activities and the changes of nature. Human settlement has been rapidly increasing. Because of land and food demands, people try to find new living areas, including Gorillas’. For agriculture, collecting firewood and charcoal destroy and threaten the survival of Gorillas that inhabit them. Furthermore, disforestation is one of the reasons why Gorillas have to find others places to live and protect themselves from dangerous situations. Besides that, the changes of nature affect a lot to Gorillas. Living in the rain forest, Gorillas have to suffer the weather which is very cold, cloudy and rainy. Storms often destroy many things such as plants and trees in Gorillas’ inhabitations when they occur. All of them make Gorillas live difficulty in their environment. There are such challenging things for Gorillas to adapt to the notification habitat. Nowadays, eastern gorillas can only be found in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda, while western gorillas can be found in the forest of West Africa. The areas of Gorillas are dwindling now.
Secondly, Gorillas are hunted by humans is the major threat for the endangered Gorillas. They poach Gorillas on many purposes such as selling them for circuses, the zoos and being pets for some collectors and especially for “Bustmeat”. In the past, during the early nineties, people in Rwanda escaped to the Virunga National Park and began hutting Gorillas for survival. Many Gorillas were suffered and died during this violence time in the Great lakes region on Africa, especially silver backs (adult male Gorillas). Nowadays, People are poaching Gorillas for “Bushmeat” trade. In fact, their meat are very expensive and valuable in many places, people can explore great huge money from hutting Gorillas. According to a shocking news which was reported by the Endangered Species International (ESI), Over three hundreds Gorillas were killed annually in Congo, they were sold in the under law market illegally in the city of Pointe Noire in 2008 and early 2009. That was such a terrible thing driven to the death of Gorillas. As the result, there are about fifty thousand western low land gorillas, two thousand five hundred eastern low land gorillas and about only seven hundred mountain gorillas remain in the world now. Mountain Gorillas are on the verge of the extinction.
The final reason making the number of Gorillas go down, is getting the ailments from interacting with humans. Like Humans, Gorillas are easy to get many of the same diseases like measles, mange and intestinal parasites. Gorillas have not developed the immunities to protect themselves against those diseases, which is the reason the number of Gorillas have reduced rapidly. In the year 2004, several hundred Gorillas had died by outbreaks of the Ebola virus in the Odzada Nation Park in Congo and in the year 2006, up to five thousand Gorillas died because of this disease. Ebola outbreaks are very dangerous disease in Congo. It was not only killed Gorillas, but also killed Humans in some area in Congo. That is a dangerous threat for Gorillas lives.
For those reason, we can obviously realized that Gorillas are in the endangered situation now. They need to be protected from the threats of loss habitat, hunting and Human ailments, unless Gorillas will be driven to the brink of extinction. A lot of organizations have done many campaigns to warn and protect this wonderful creature. The awareness and educating in the general public on Gorillas are very significant for people at this time, especially the Africa residents. Clearly, everything in the Earth is a part of this beautiful planet. All of them have their own responsibility to contribute to the natural perfection; therefore, with the loss of an element, the world will be less diverse. This can lead to an imbalanced environment.

Protecting the environment

Protecting the environment is one of the most important things we need to do this time. It is not only the responsibility of the government, but also the responsibility of each individual who lives in the environment. So we need to know how to protect and develop our environment effectively.
Our environment is everything around us. We can live healthily and lively in a good environment if we know the right way to protect our environment. It will be more comfortable and interested in our life when we have a great atmosphere around us. Let’s imagine how it would be wonderful if you wake up in the morning, open your eyes, look outside your house, enjoy a fresh air and start working with a lot of energy. These are all of the great things that a good environment can bring to us. But now, our environment is facing with a lot of dangerous problems. It has been damaging and polluting day by day. As citizens, we need to do some practical things to conserve our environment.
The first thing we can do is building and designing the environment around our places. Let’s start with planning trees in each family’s house or growing fruits and vegetables in our garden. They will bring many benefits for our health. As we know, it will be safe and confident with using our own food. Furthermore, green trees can make the atmosphere become freshly and purify the pollution. We will like to do our work and studying effectively in a good environment. It makes people be able to create a lot of amazing things in their work.
The second thing is know how to work with our garbage. The sprawling garbage is dangerous thing with our environment now. We must throw away the garbage into the right way that it is supposed to be. And that would be great if we try to classify our garbage in different types. It will much easier to recycling them. In the other hand, using paper bags instead of plastic bags is also a good way to reduce the amount of big garbage in the world.
Finally, Living in “the ecocity” is a good idea to have a good environment. In there, we can work and live together in a friendly environment. It is more convenient and comfortable for us to move because we can try to riding bicycles and using public transit rather than rely solely on cars. It will make people less depend on fossil fuels every time. Everybody can create a big community healthily.
For these reasons, I think protecting the environment is very important for our life. It is a practical thing we need to concern. Everyone shouldn’t think it is the government’s responsibility, not our business and it will be waste of time to do it because protecting the environment is protecting us.

My new life in America

It has been amazing for me until now when every time I suddenly realize I am in America; the country which I had just seen on TV, movies or magazines before. For every student in my country, going abroad in America is a big dream and a luxurious thinking; the thing that is very difficult to reach. However, for me I just wanted to live and study in my own country because I did not want to stay away from my family, my friends who I love so much. Even thought I used to think like that, I still went to America already. And I am discovering how interesting America’s life is in every minute I study here.
Before coming in America, I did not have a specific intention to prepare for going abroad. My direction was so dim and uncertain. I did not really know what I wanted to do or what I wanted to study in the future. In my mind, I just thought going abroad in the US perhaps would be a good idea for me to discover a new life, a new opportunity to see the world outside my box. I put many expectations in America. I would be professional in English, receive a best education, study in a huge college, make a lot of foreign friends from difference countries and speak English with native speakers... etc. The most important thing that I would be opener than before and learn how to live independently rather than relying on my family. However, I was also worried that whether the cold weather in America would be fine with a person from the tropical country like me. I would miss Vietnamese food so much and cry because of homesickness. A lot of challenges ahead of me, but my expectations of America gave me hope and belief in my future life.
The first time, I stepped on America; everything was so big and new with me: the buildings, the streets, the houses and even the meal that I and my father ate with my aunt’s family_ my new family here. Getting use to a new life was difficult with me but I was so lucky and happy because I received a lot of help and care from my aunt’s family. I realized that going abroad wasn’t too bad like I imagined before. The weather was really cold for me at first but I could handle it now. Furthermore, I also could enjoy Vietnamese’s food easily even at home or outside. It was so great. I have learned and experienced a lot of things since I came here. I could take the bus to go home by myself, knew how to use the public phone, something I had never done before. I went to a big school and met new teachers and new friends. All of them were very nice and friendly. I also felt that I became opener, more sociable with everyone around me and be able to communicate with them by using English. How wonderful were they? I received such good things more than I expected on America.
I begin to like America more and more. The environment here made me live independently. I feel more responsible with myself and my future. In here, I could do everything I like. I could go shopping, hang out with my friends, wear my favorite’s clothes and drive my own car to go to school. I also learn a lot of interesting cultures, not only in America but also in different countries. I believe that America will be a wealthy land for me to grow up my dream in the future. However the only one thing I don’t really like in here is the busy of life. That makes people focus too much on their jobs, their living and do not have time for family. It is a difficult and luxurious thing to have a meal together and chat with each other every day. But everyone can easily find the warm of family in my country’s family in every meal. And that is the reason I miss my family so much.
All the things I am experiencing now help me a lot to create a new life in America. I am trying day by day to get use to the life here. Although there will be a lot of difficult things wait me in the future, I believe I could get through them and archive my goal once day. My expectations of America were much better than I imagined. It was a good beginning for me to continue living and studying here.
