The history of Creation is known and defined in many various ways. It depends on religions and personal beliefs of each individual or organization. The world which people are leaving is very mysterious and interesting to discover. Therefore, many authors have written and researched about the creation of the world in centuries. They have different ideas or beliefs about how the world was created. The understanding of creation is expressed unlikely in two readings: “The Book of Genesis from The Woman’s Bible” of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and “Nature” of Luther Standing Bear. Both readings have different thought about creation. Stanton declares the creation is about the simultaneous creation of man and woman. In contract, Standing Bear believes all of the creatures in the world create a beautiful nature around humans.
In “The Book of Genesis from The Woman’s Bible”, Stanton mentioned a about the progress of God when he created man in Genesis. According to the Genesis “God created man in his own image, male and female” (Page 107, Ideas Across Times), God brought the simultaneous creation of man and woman to the world flow his imagination. He expected that both sexes are equal and have the same significant position in developing the human’s lives. Therefore, women have the same right and dominion like man. It is important to maintain and acknowledge the eternity and equality of sex in order to create the balance world. In Stanton’s opinion, she demonstrated that without marinating those important elements “there could have been no perpetuation of creation, no growth or development in the animal, vegetable, or mineral kingdoms, no awakening nor progressing in the world of thought.”(Page 106-107, Ideas Across Times). From that, people can realize that the creatures of the world are closely related to a simultaneous creation of the masculine and feminine which man and woman were evolved on the sixth day. Thus, overall Stanton’s view about the creation is man is the first and original specie in the beginning of the world.
However, Standing Bear has a different comprehension about the creation. His thought is mainly regard to Nature. He thinks that all of creatures are created the beautiful we live now. The earth, the sun, water, animals and every single creature combine together to develop the nature. Standing said The Lakota loves everything in the earth and people feel safe and comfortable under the protection of mothers and grandmothers. They are really close to nature. It makes them has the clear and sympathy thought about the world: “he can see more clearly into the mysteries of life and come closer in kinship to other lives about him” (Page 188, Ideas Across Times). Because of understanding the beautiful meaning of nature, Indian people behave in good manner and know what is helpful and harmful for their life. Standing Bear expressed that the animals have the same rights as man. They are worth to be protected by humans and it is a proper thing to do. They really care about the creatures around them “This concept of life and its relations was humanizing and gave to the Lakota an abiding love” (Page 189, Idea Across Times). It makes them like and appreciate the environment where they live. The creation of the sun and the earth play the important roles in the development of nature. Therefore, Indian people have special love and beliefs about the earth and the sun in their life. They will protect them throughout difficult situations occur in their life.
From those different concepts about the creation above, people can understand more about the historical of the world’s creation. Ones is related to the simultaneous creation of man and woman, one is related closely to nature. However, both thought of Standing Bear and Stanton are really interesting and understandable. They gave people a different ideas about how the world is made and form that people can appreciate more about the world that they are leaving now.
